Welcome
to the monthly eNewsletter from one of Northwestern's experts in the
resource, instruction and research issues that impact faculty.
Designing Effective Asynchronous Online Discussion
Many faculty are integrating asynchronous online discussions, a structured
online dialogue that allows individuals to "post" and reply to messages at
different times, into their teaching in order to extend opportunities for
students to discuss course content. Although instructors generally design
most in-class discussions almost unconsciously, careful and thoughtful
design of online discussion is required to achieve dialogue-like interactions.
NU Library Instructional Workshops
The Library's
Reference Department offers a series of instructional workshops designed
to introduce library users to the growing collection of electronic resources.
From basic overviews of online search concepts to more complex discussions
of specialized bibliographic databases these brief, one-hour sessions
are designed to fit within the busy schedules of NU students, faculty,
and staff.
