Announcement

The presentation, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Day at NU, originally scheduled for March 14 has been postponed until later in the year. Look to future 2EAST announcements for information about a series of campus presentations dedicated to GIS opportunities at NU.

Web of Science

The ISI Web of Science is one of the largest and most sophisticated electronic sources of bibliographic information available. The Institute for Scientific Information is an international company with headquarters in Philadelphia and offices in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Tokyo, and Singapore. ISI specializes in providing bibliographic information for research. The ISI Web of Science is one part of the enormous system called the ISI Web of Knowledge, which is of a series of databases which serve law, finance, education, medicine, and academic research.

Slide Scanning: A Sticky Wicket

Digital Media Services (DMS) has helped numerous faculty and staff digitize their collections of 35mm slides during the last two years of operation, scanning more than 2,500 slides on users' behalf in 2002 alone. While 35 mm slides have been the medium of choice for many photographers and teachers because they are portable and durable, they are notoriously difficult to scan.

Web-enhanced Instruction for Northwestern Graduate Students (WINGS)

This spring quarter will see the beginning of a first-of-its kind teaching and technology training program for NU graduate students. The new program, WINGS (Web-enhanced Instruction for Northwestern Graduate Students), will train graduate students to use technology in their teaching in a way that will engage students and enhance learning. At the end of the program participants will have created a web-enhanced course or section using university supported technology.
